Pre-order Tom’s New Album Today!
When Tom Curtain returned to the music scene in 2017, after a 12 year hiatus, he didn’t expect his third album, Territory Time, to shoot to #1 on the iTunes Country Australia Chart or his duet with Luke O’Shea, ‘Never Never Land’, to win two Golden Guitars at the 2018 Tamworth Country Music Festival. Since then, the singer-songwriter has been showered with accolades for his true blue, catchy approach to country music. Tomorrow, Friday 21 October 2022, he releases his stunning fifth studio album, Nothin’s Gonna Stop Us.
Tom Curtain isn’t one of those acts who puts on a hat and southern drawl in an effort to convince you of his authenticity. He’s already the real deal. Dressed in worn blue jeans, an Ariat shirt and a wide brim straw hat, this is no act. It becomes abundantly clear when listening to his new 10-track offering; a rousing snapshot of life in outback Australia.
Tom confesses the songs from the new album are “written from my own experiences, travelling and some great stories.” Mid-tempo ballads like ‘The Best Horse’ and the title track, ‘Nothin’s Gonna Stop Us’ dive into matters of the heart, with the former detailing the unique bond between a man and his horse. While foot stompers, ‘Ee-yaw’ and ‘Tractor Man’ balance out the album’s denser material as light-hearted sing-alongs.
“There’re some funny upbeat songs, some serious ones that describe the life out here in the bush and a few really heartfelt songs that is new territory for me but I think they will strike a chord with fans.”
The tracks that really shine are those about life on the land. ‘When The Rain Comes Down’ is a stark commentary on the difficulties faced by those working in rural Australia, as ‘Heaven on Earth’ and ‘Why We Live Out Here’ celebrate the idiosyncrasies of outback living. The latter, released as the lead single from the album, enjoyed extensive radio success – spending 5 weeks in the #1 spot of the Country Tracks Top 40 Airplay Chart where it’s been a fixture for over 18 weeks.
The instrumentation surrounding Tom’s stories is airtight; each track buffed and polished to a world class sheen by producer and co-writer, Garth Porter (Lee Kernaghan, James Blundell). Recorded at Porter’s Rancom St. Studios in Sydney, the playing is expert – a fitting blend of pop-like hooks in a setting more faithful to country music’s roots.
When the Live Beef Export Ban came into effect in 2011, Tom was working as a horse trainer and found himself out of work overnight. To remedy this, he created the tourist attraction, Katherine Outback Experience (KOE). Today KOE is wildly successful, winning awards for the Best Tourist Attraction in Australia 2021 and Best Tourist Attraction in the NT for the last three years running.
While it predominately operaties out of Katherine, NT, in the summer it becomes a travelling show, featuring Tom’s original music blended with an interactive display of horse and dog training demonstrations. In the Summer of 2022/23 Tom is set to embark on a 70+ date tour, bringing the legendary show from NT to QLD, NSW, VIC, TAS and SA.
Tom’s hard hitting new album Nothin’s Gonna Stop Us is authentically Australian. He sums it up well in the lyrics of his closing track ‘Country Boys’ – “Living and loving in a big wide land”. That is in essence what this album is all about. Packed with fun and heartful stories of rural living, every word sounds sincere and every note authentic.
