Living the ‘Good Life’

This Australian country music singer is truly living the dream – touring his stunning live show around Australia every summer, running a booming tourism business in the Territory and still finding time to take out trophies at campdrafts. ‘Good Life’ distils that experience into a song that celebrates the magic of rural living – wide open spaces, campfire nights and muddy tyres.

The story behind ‘Good Life’

‘Good Life’ was born from a conversation Tom had with a fan during his tour:

“A bloke from Melbourne came up after a show and was quizzing me about life on a cattle station – the early morning starts, mustering cattle on horseback, the isolation and fun times had out there. After a while he replied “That sounds like, what a good life looks like, to me” I said I think I’d better buy you a beer as that’s a cracking line for a song. He said no dramas and we shared a couple together!”

This comment struck a chord with Tom, inspiring him to pen a song while still on the road that encapsulates the beauty of rural living. Tom describes ‘Good Life’ as the “ultimate getaway anthem,” with lyrics that transport listeners to a place where the sky is vast, the air is fresh, and life is unencumbered by the hustle and bustle of city living. Tom teamed up with renowned singer songwriter Matt Scullion and they fleshed out the lyrics during a flurry of Zoom calls before finally bringing it to producer Garth Porter (known for his work bringing hit songs by Lee Kernaghan and James Blundell to life) for the final touches. With the unparalleled skill of Rod McCormack behind the mixing desk, ‘Good Life’ found life within the walls of Porter’s Rancom St Studio.

The song’s accompanying video clip was also shot on the road, across three different states.

“We were on tour travelling through SA and I thought we should use the city of Adelaide in the first verse to paint a picture of traffic, bumper to bumper.”

The clip pits the bustle of city life against serene vistas of rural Australia and features Tom’s tour mates Laura Frank and Nick Morrissey of Orange Schmorange Production House.
