There are few greater honours in Australian country music than having your song featured as the finale at the Toyota Golden Guitar Awards in front of music royalty.
It was an honour that’s not lost on Katherine singer-songwriter Tom Curtain who not only performed the finale with other Golden Guitar winners, but also in front of the first lady of Australian country music, Joy McKean, who inspired the track, She Gave Us The Song.
The song is Tom’s latest single, and was penned by Kelly Dixon and Garth Porter. He was joined on stage by Lee Kernaghan, Sara Storer, Troy Cassar-Daley and Lyn Bowtell for the emotional performance.
“It was humbling to get up there with those amazing artists and perform the song in front of a packed house and having Joy sitting in the front row was very nerve-wracking,” he said.
Tom said it was an absolute honour to perform the song in front of the woman who has done so much for the industry they work in.
“Joy has done so much for country music and for Slim Dusty and is a great songwriter in her own right,” he said.
“To be able to sing a song for her that’s highlighted some of her achievements is a great privilege.”
Tom Curtain now continues his We’re Still Here Tour through New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Northern Territory.
