What the song is about

Country Boys, Cowgirls and Horses stands up for the people who drop everything to lend a hand, the animals woven into country life, the land that connects generations, and the traditions passed down through country families. At its heart, it pushes back against the idea that anyone should feel ashamed of where they come from or the life they choose to live.

“This song is really about being proud of who you are and where you come from,” Tom says. “It is about the people who will drop everything to give someone a hand, the animals that are such a big part of our lives, the country we work and care for, and the traditions that have been passed down through generations. There is a lot to be proud of in country Australia. We might do things a little differently out here, but that sense of community, looking out for each other and appreciating what we have got is pretty special.”

The music video

The official music video was filmed around Katherine and Darwin by Simon Manzie and Rafael Howgate of Global Headquarters.

It features Katherine local Jeff Usher, a passionate advocate for the region and someone who has made something of a sport out of giving Tom a hard time on social media. Starring in the clip was a fitting bit of payback. He’ll say he hated every minute of it. Nobody believes him. Locals know him as “Katherine’s Hugh Jackman.”

Filming took place at Kirby’s Katherine Hotel, with thanks to Cassie and Rob, and at Blue Hole Steakhouse, with thanks to Nino and Tina Niceforo.

A taste of the lyrics

Verse 1
We grew up in this town like my old man’s old man
When strangers come out here, to take a look around
We get bowed up, if they show up, n’ start knocking our patch of ground

Chorus
We’re out the back of nowhere, out the back of out there
We’re proud of who we are, I love the life n’ I swear
When the chips are down, out in this old town, we gather up the forces
We got country boys, cowgirls and horses

Bridge
Well the place is deep in history, the cattle and the sheep
Ya’ can hear the heartbeat echo, ‘cross the ground
So take a look about, before you run ya’ mouth
If you got the time, we’ll show ya’ ’round
