Remembering Mt Sanford Days G'day Tom Cat. It's Quita here. I am listening to your album Smack Bang at the moment. It brings back fond memories of the times we sang "Smack Bang" together at Mt. Sanford. I even remember the words and love singing along with the CD. I always knew you would make it big and then when I came back from hospital in Adelaide after my accident and read about you in the NT news, I began remembering the days at Mt. Sanford and you taking the buck out some of the horses for me. It's been just over 3 years since I had my horse accident at Timber Creek. I am almost able to walk although I have no balance and often fall. My left side is still not better and I can't use my left arm and hand properly but I am working on it. Since the accident, Brumby (do you remember her?) has had 2 foals - filly and colt. I have them at home and am hoping to begin breaking in the filly with some help from a neighbour. I am working hard to get back to station life. Have done some work trials at Opium Creek and Willeroo and hope to do some extensive trials early next season with the hope of starting some part-time work later in the season. I still have further rehabilitation sessions to fix up the finer points of my physical recovery. Otherwise, I am much the same although my short term memory is a bit buggared. Next time you are in Darwin, please catch up with me so we can have a couple of drinks for old time's sake. Maybe you can give me some advice on working my two foals. Cheers matey!! Quita Docking, Darwin NT |

Enjoyed Your CD - Where Can I Get Another One? I was on the first leg of the cattle drive. Really enjoyed your cd I want to purchase another 1 but can't manage to find one anywhere. Saw Adam Harvey on 1/7 at Twin Towns, excellent show. When are you coming this way? glenda bowkett, kingscliff, nsw MODERATOR'S COMMENT: Tom's CD (Smack Bang!) is distributed by One Stop Entertainment, Brisbane. To find a store near you which deals with One Stop, phone them on 07 3279 2754, ask for "sales" and give them your postcode. In your case, Glenda, they said your nearest store would be Buzz Bar Music, 23 Wharf St, Murwillumbah, Ph 02 6672 4766. If they don't have it in stock, they can order it for you. Good luck with that. |

You kept up the atmosphere with your songs and your personality. You're a great guy and many congrats on your Smack Bang No. 1. Only found out just then, being stuck up in Birdsville for the last couple of days. I wish you all the luck in the future and I might catch up with you some time. Well Done with Smack Bang being No 1 Hi Ya Mate, WELL DONE with Smack Bang being No 1. You deserve it. Dad is one of your biggest fans now after receiving your cd. If you remember we discussed my family's tragedy with the Eyre Penninsula Bush fire with the loss of my Mum and niece and nephew, Dad was wondering if you could write a song about it. If you needed any detail Dad would be happy to discuss his experience. Well hope to see you soon. Ben Griffith, Adelaide SA |

Be good to catch up again one day and also congrats on the no 1, you deserve it. Keep your 2 feet always planted and say good day to your old mate (does she really like being refered to as that??). Message from Tom ... 16 June 2005 G’DAY EVERYONE! Thanks so much for the messages and goss – it’s great to hear how everyone else is going too. Sorry I don't have time to respond to each one individually. Well I’m just back from 6 weeks droving out on the Birdsville Track which was an extraordinary experience. We were droving about 500 head of cattle from Birdsville to Marree and every 4-5 days up to 70 tourists would come in to ride along and give us a hand. There were 150 horses that we had to hobble every day and every horse had a name, so it was quite an effort to learn them all but by the end I think we had them down pat. Every third night or so I sang to the tourists and got them up to tell a few stories, have a dance and sing the odd song, which was great. Anyway a big pat on the back must go to all the drovers, all the organizers and of course South Australian Tourism, for a spectacular event. It’s rolling again in 2007 if anyone’s keen…! I’m just heading off to Darwin now for Brunette Downs Races. I have a gig at Pine Creek next Wednesday 22 June (that’s a concert to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the ABC Country Hour) and then Mt Isa Show the next weekend, so I might catch up with a few of you. It was really great to get back home here to news that the single Smack Bang! has made it to Number One on the Australian Country Music Chart this week – many, many thanks to all of you who are requesting my songs on radio – that does the trick and I appreciate it! Anyway better run and catch this plane … all the best to everyone and I look forward to saying g’day to you along the track. Tom … Old Boyneside, Kumbia, Qld … 16 June 2005 |

I had the pleasure and privilege of meeting you on the Cattle Drive Hi Tom, I had the pleasure and privilege of meeting you on the 2005 Great Australian Outback Cattle Drive (Potato Tin Camp) and hearing you sing. One of Joe's gang, by the way loved that duet. Last week I drove from Denver to Omaha (Nebraska) and played your CD for the whole 10 hour trip. I grew up on a farm and could relate to so many of your songs, I could even visualise some of my family members in some of those situations...not saying which ones. I wish you much success with your music career and hope to see another CD in the stores when I next get back home. Judy Ellard, Denver, USA via Perth |

A rare quality ... to bring the country to life through music I had the pleasure of working with Tom for the last month in the outback, at the 2005 Great Australian Outback Cattle Drive, he as a drover, myself as a client liasion officer. One of the highlights for myself and for the clients was when Tom would come into the camp at night and sing his songs. The whole base camp would sing with him and in one tour group he had them ON the tables dancing. Tom has a talent for either having the room jiving to his music or laughing with him at his songs and his stories, or in a number of cases crying with him, especially with A Million Memories, Tom you may as well have been singing about my grandad. Tom is a gentle soul and a person who one day will no doubt be in the country music hall of fame. Clients would comment on his manners, his friendliness and his attitude, and mostly his compassion, especially when they were riding on the drive itself and Tom would be called over to "calm a horse down". He made a great impression on every! person he met. His faith and respect to his family shows that he is a true country gentleman. I am glad to have had the time listening to a man who is so talented and in touch with the land, a rare quality these days to bring the country so much to life through music. Sharyn McCaskey, Rockingham WA |

Listening to your CD takes me back to all the great times I had, especially with yourself. Remember breaking the door of the van and having the cattle run into the front. "Bugga, don't tell Dad!" Message from Tom ... 29 January 2005 G’day everyone Well things have been a little hectic lately but that’s how I like it! Arrived back home earlier in the week from Tamworth after about 2 weeks down there singing and now off to the Territory tomorrow for all of February breaking in horses, which should be great. At Tamworth I had to walk down the red carpet at the Golden Guitar Awards which was a little daunting - my boots had only ever seen the dust from the cattle yards! I had to sing Drink Drovin’ to the big crowd the same night and was very grateful to get the opportunity. Am doing a fair bit of singing this year so will hopefully catch up with all of you around the traps somewhere. Keep an eye on the website to stay in touch. Apologies for not having the time to respond to all the messages personally, but believe me I do read and appreciate every one of them. Thanks again for giving me a go and supporting me and I hope you all have a safe and awesome 2005!! Thanks too for the birthday greetings for tomorrow – I fly Brisbane to Darwin, then drive 984 km to Bunda Station with the anticipation of breaking in a dozen horses – what better way to spend a birthday! All the best! Tom Kumbia Qld 29 January 2004 |

A big buzz looking at your website Hi Tom, I don't know if you remember us but it is a big buzz looking at your website. Keep up the great work Hey Tom well one day my mum was raving on about this country music singer that she keeps hearing on the radio but do you think she could tell me your name or the name of the song all she could say was it was about this windmill and that it was an absolute beaut (& she still thinks its a great song), well one day a few weeks after watching A Little Bit of Country there you were and I couldnt believe what an awesome song and to make things better one of the guys I went to Uni with was featured on there (it was Babs). Well you have definately won a couple of hearts in this household. Keep up the great work you are doing you are definately Australian and we love you for it. PS Have fun in Charleville and think about a concert in Blackall for us. Cheers Shari, Blackall, Qld |

you're my Australian Idol hello Tom, my son Brady has been practising his guitar like mad as he wants a jam session with you. Could you please brush up on Hot Cross Buns for your next visit to Katherine. All my students on KSA think you're bigger than Garth Brooks and Alan Jackson. They want to be just like you when you grow up. Love your work you're my Australian Idol. Jodie ps have you been practising to do the splits on the dance floor lately. you have a lot of support around this land Hi Tom - I'd never heard of you until I went to Mud, Bulls last weekend. And out of curiousity I searched your name on the net and found the site. I was spun to see that you're from my home town too, what is it about Mildura that pushes us further north?? After reading the other messages in here I can see you have a lot of support around this land, and a lot of ladies hot on your heels ; ) . And even though I didn't have the pleasure of meeting you, I agree with what I've read. I think you have a great talent and I wish you all the best with what you want to do. You've got the soul mate - keep it smiling. Look forward to sitting back and watching another gig. Korin, Bucca Queensland |

I enjoy your music so much hi tom just writing to say that i am kicking myself now for not going to jimna on the weekend missed seeing you sing. it was a toss up between there or rocky for the rodeo grand finals so we picked rocky cause we knew a fella doing the bare back riding. any way i enjoy your music so much because i can relate to some of it. the likes of the drinking song, because of an old fella who used to do cattle work with my dad it took 3 beers to do the chooks, 1 for the walk over from the quarters, 1 while doing the chooks and 1 for the walk back. funny thing was it was only about a hundred metres at the max. bye for now. hope ya come to bundy. bev, bundy qld |

From Mud Bulls & Music to The Great Southeast Hi Tom, just got back from Mud Bulls & Music - I did meet you and chatted Friday night in front of Main Stage and I promised to buy your CD the next day after your performance, which I did and bloody glad too - its great. But the amazing coincidence is that after I played it as soon as I got home, I then watched "The Great Souteast" and there was Old Boyneside and you singing Smack Bang. Deja Vu eh? Needless to say I have entered the competition - what are my chances?? Geoff, Sunshine Coast |
